Majid Tavakoli: My Bitter Memories

Wednesday July 7th, 2010 - Majid Tavakoli, imprisoned student of Amir Kabir University (AUT) writes a letter on the occasion of the anniversary of attacks on the student dormitories that took place on July 9th, 1999. According to HRANA, the full content of the letter is as follows:

The 11th anniversary of the July 9th attacks on the student dormitories is upon us and yet our pain remains unhealed. On the eve of this 11th anniversary our candles continue to burn for an era when our freedom was sacrificed in a conspiracy that included serial murders and the banning of all newspapers. As always, students were at the forefront of this struggle against authoritarianism, but alas, the crimes that occurred at the university dormitories only speak of unprecedented atrocities.

The betrayal of our historic desire for freedom and our national struggle to achieve it was an end to democracy and a stalemate for the Republic. The universities became a hotbed for those devoted to violence. Respect was trampled upon and boundaries were violated, culminating in the breaking of the doors to student sanctuaries.

They destroyed and burnt everything they laid their eyes on. Defenseless students became the target of batons and were shot at, all in the name of religion and in support of the Supreme Leader. They pushed our school mates from the dormitory windows, leading to even more blood filled nights and painful days.

They drenched the 9th of July in blood; they burnt and destroyed until there was nothing left behind but ashes. They made sure that the pain inflicted would remain for months, for years. Time stood still on July 9th, 1999 and the universities became an ever lasting symbol of the students' struggle against authoritarianism and the fight for freedom. However, after 10 years, the hatred for tyranny remained in the hearts of those who had witnessed the events of July 9th. The painful story of July 9th continued in 2009 when the ruling powers once again took it upon themselves to use violence, to rape and murder our school mates, turning the torture chambers of Kahrizak prison into a exhibit for the most heinous and bitter crimes that occurred during these years.

Apparently in every corner of the government, there were individuals more than willing to send innocent people to the torture chambers of Kahrizak prison after they had been suppressed and arrested on the 9th of July. They used the most heinous torture techniques on individuals whose only crime was being a student; many of whom were murdered under the pressure of rape and torture.

As the 9th of July became eternal, with the passing of the years, this year we witnessed the birth of the Green movement. The protests, deceit, violence, superstition, sycophancy, treachery, killings, wickedness and crimes that occurred on the eve of June 15th, 2009 at the university dormitories was nothing more than history repeating itself. This time around, bullets had been added to the myriad of other weapons used. If July 9th represented the courage and honesty of the resistance by the university, June 15th, 2009 and the protests that followed became a symbol of courage and escape from violence, tyranny and scandal.

The Supreme Leader, the decision maker behind all the events that occurred after the 1999 elections, made reference to the atrocities at the university dormitories, but alas, much like the crimes that occurred at Kahrizak prison, these remarks too were nothing more than meaningless gestures, made out of nervousness because of the events of July 9th and as such conveniently forgotten. Emotional speeches and irrational behavior intensified. Responsibilities were forfeited. If any comments were made, they were only to threaten the Green leaders and political activists. Extremism and repression were not supposed to be the response to those who posed questions. By the same token the coup against the ruling government that occurred on July 9th, 1999 was also never investigated.

2009 may be behind us, but the years of neglected leadership and lack of responsibility towards the bitter events remain with us. Through it all the dignity of the Iranian people has remained intact. Even thought our people have become more alive and have proven to the world that they deserve a better government, the bitter memories of the events that took place at the university still remain.

The intensified cultural and economic crisis, the deepening of the social and political divisions, the lost legitimacy and dignity of the ruling government, unacceptable behavior and actions of the authorities over the past year, were all desperate attempts to intimidate and repress the hope revived by the Green Movement. The government's battle against hope and enlightenment led to the creation of fear, with high costs for all freedom seekers. However, because of our courage and hope, this too shall pass.

Today, universities are witnessing a large number of students being banned from continued education. Every day there are more students behind bars. We are experiencing unprecedented exclusions from education and exams, encroachment on student rights, suspensions, professors being fired, and draining of our brain power and exile of our intellectuals. However, despite the desire by the enemies of universities, our universities have not remained silent. In fact Evin prison has turned into a university of sorts, filled with passionate and hopeful youth, the founders of the student movement and the motor behind the Green Movement; proving yet again that regardless of the repression and intimidation, and the high costs associated with this struggle, the students have prevailed and remain victorious.

The student movement, imprisoned students, those deprived of continuing their education, all became a beacon of light and symbol of hope. Today the universities are also accused of being the motor behind the Green movement and are under intense attack. The enemies of universities seek the closure and elimination of all independent institutions of education and humanities, sources of knowledge and awareness. They desire universities without a pulse. They wish to erase the memories of July 9th and December 7th from our collective consciousness. Despite all this, the university remains the ruling government's biggest nightmare. It will not fall for all this conspiracy and deceit in the name of Islam. The universities will prevail until all enemies succumb to the courage and perseverance that have been instrumental in standing against oppression. The fact that the memories of July 9th remain vibrant is a testament to our strong will. We are certain that July 9th will stay alive as yet another sign of the victory of the dynamic movement that began long ago.

Today, the student movement is continuing on its path even more determined than before. It is a source of awareness and a symbol of courage. It understands our society and reaches out to intellectuals. Our student movement is a staunch supporter of journalists, and political and social activities. It is against any form of violence and encourages connecting with our culture. The student movement will not abandon the Green leaders during a time of such importance and will take advantage of all opportunities to ensure that students collaborate in a more effective and efficient manner. The student movement has respect for past experiences and is determined to record and share these experiences to further strengthen all activities. Today this student movement is aware of the tactics designed to oppress and will work hard to protect students. It will ensure that the tactics used are in line with a strategy designed to get us closer to victory.

We are joyful today that the clear voices of the university are audible even in prison. We are joyful knowing that our friends have kept our hope alive. The voices of our freedom seekers have silenced the cries of dictatorship. We are joyful and honored to be alongside our student friends. We encourage all students to join us as we are hopeful and certain that in the near future we will all meet again to celebrate our Green freedom and the arrival of democracy.

Our story is about to be renewed; it is about to change. This time, we may have begun with our bitter memories. However, we survived the hardship and the difficulties and bitterness of the past year have led to an increase in hope. This time our wish is to celebrate a new year. We wish to celebrate, as we are certain of our victory.

هرانا؛ از خاطرات تلخ من / نامه ای از مجید توکلی به مناسب سالگرد 18 تیر

خبرگزاری هرانا – مجید توکلی دانشجوی در بند پلی تکنیک تهران به مناسب سالگرد 18 تیر ماه (حمله به کوی دانشگاه در سال 78) نامه ای را در زندان نگاشته است.

متن نامه مجید توکلی که در اختیار خبرگزاری هرانا قرار گرفته است در پی می آید:

یازدهمین 18 تیرمان رسید و دردمان درمان نشده، یازدهمین 18 تیرمان رسید و شمع هایمان همچنان می سوزند، آنگاه که آزادی ها در خطر فتنه قتل های زنجیره ای توطعه توقیف روزنامه ها قرار گرفت؛ دانشجویان چون همیشه در خط مقدم استبداد ستیزی ایستادند اما افسوس که دست جنایت در کوی دانشگاه فجایع چنان به بار آورد.

خیانت به تاریخ آزادی خواهی و مبارزات ملی پایانی بر دموکراسی و رسیدن به بن بست این جمهوری بود، دانشگاه میدان تاخت و تاز سر سپرده گان و خشونت طلبان شد که نه تنها حرمت دانشگاه را شکستند که حریم اتاق امن دانشجو را با شکستن درب ها هتک کردند.

هر چه بود شکستند و به آتش کشیدن و دانشجویان بی دفاع را هدف باتوم و چماق و گلوله قرار دادند و در حالی که ادعای دفاع از رهبری و دین داشتند یاران دبستانی مان را از بام پنجره های خوابگاه ها پرت کردند و شب های خون بار و روزهای پر درد را رقم زدند.

18 تیر را به خون سرخ کردند و به دود سیاه نمودند تا آنگاه که آتش به خاکستر نشست تا ماه ها و سالها آن درد ها نرود تاریخ 78 متوقف نماند و 18 تیر نمادی از مظلومیت آزادی خواهی استبداد ستیزی دانشجویان برای همیشه ی همیشه دانشگاه شد اما پس از گذشت 10 سال هنوز کینه استبداد از بزرگی 18 تیر باقی مانده بود و قصه پر درد 18 تیرها در سال 88 خشونت عریان حاکمیت را به تجاوز و قتل یاران دبستانی مان رساند تا شکنجه گاه کهریزک سندی برای بزرگترین جنایت این سالهای تلخ باشد.

گویا در هر گوشه از حاکمیت عده ای بودند که پس از سرکوب ویژه مردم در 18 تیر بازداشت شده ها را راهی شکنجه گاه کهریزک کنند و به جرم دانشجو بودن شدید ترین شکنجه ها را روا دارند و از شدت شکنجه ها و تجاوز عده ای را به قتل برسانند.

18 تیر جاودانه ماند و در گذر از سالها و در دهمین سال عظم تغییر به تولد جنبش سبز رسید اعتراض و دروغ و خرافه و تملق خشونت و بی تدبیری و ماجراجویی در بیداد تملق و خیانت خشونت و کشتار و جنایت و رذالت رنگ باخت بامداد 25 خرداد 88 برای کوی دانشگاه تکراری بود اینبار گلوله های ساچمه ای به آن همه سلاح های سرد و گرم افزوده شده بود اگر 18 تیر معرف شجاعت و صداقت تاریخ ایستادگی دانشگاه بود خرداد 88 و اعتراضات پس از آن نماینده شجاعت و خشونت گریزی تاریخ آزادی خواهی برای رسوایی بیداد و استبداد گردید.

با رهبری که تصمیم گیر اصلی مسائل پس از انتخابات بود از فاجعه کوی دانشگاه یاد کرد اما افسوس که چون فاجعه کهریزک - که آن هم در پی عصبیت از 18 تیر و دانشگاه بود – فراموش شد و نمایشی بیش نبود سخنان احساسی و تشدید رفتارهای غیر عقلانی انجامید مسئولیت پذیری در مهاق رفت اگر سخن از خواص هم شد برای تهدید رهبران سبز و فعالان سیاسی بود و قرار نبود بازخواست و مؤاخذت تندروی ها و سرکوب ها باشد چنانچه که در 18 تیر 78 نیز وقتی کودتای حاکمیت علیه دولت برای تثبیت قدرت در شکل دهی به مطلقه قدسی به راه افتاد، خبری از پیگیری ها نبود.

سال 88 هم گذشت و سالهای از رهبری و جستجوی از مسئولیت پذیری در برابر آن همه اتفاقات تلخ همچنان باقی ماند اگر چه جاودانگی مردم رسید و عزت ایرانی رنگ زنده ای یافت و در برتری مردم؛ لیاقت برای داشتن حکومتی بهتر در گوشه های جهان شنیده شد اما دانشگاه بر خاطرات تلخ و تجربیات سختش افزود.

در شدت گرفتن بحران های فرهنگی و اقتصادی و اجتماعی و سیاسی شکاف های تعمیق شد و مشروعیت از دست رفته حاکمیت و آبروی ریخته شده حاکمان و بی حیایی رفتار ها و سخنان مسئولین اتفاقات سال گذشته همه به ناچاری استقرار سرکوب ارعاب رسید تغییر حکومت، اشاعه ترس برای مقابله با امید بر آمده از جنبش سبز بود در گذر از همه سختی ها و تلخی ها امید و اطمینان از تغییر همراه راه سبز شد تا جنبش سبز با امید شناخته شود اما دشمنی با روشنی و امید هراسی به سوی ترس آفرینی و شب اندیشی حاکمان مستبد رفت و هزینه های فراوانی را بر همه آزادی خواهان وارد ساخت با شجاعت و امید از آن خواهیم گذشت.

دانشگاه امروز انبوهی از فرزندانش را محروم از تحصیل و پشت درب های دانشگاه می بیند دانشجویان دربند هر روز بر شمارشان افزوده می گردد بی سابقه ترین محرومیت ها از تحصیل در دست اندازی و کنکور و گزینشی کردن و تعلیق و ستاره دار کردن دانشجویان سهمیه بندی ها خود را نشان داد به اخراج اساتید و مهاجرت نخبگان و تبعید اندیشمندان افزوده شد، اما بر خلاف خواست دشمنان دانشگاه، نه تنها دانشگاه ساکت نماند که حتی اوین رنگ دانشگاه گرفت و جوانه های پر شور جوان آن سازنده های امید و شور برای جنبش دانشجویی شدند و موتور پیش برنده جنبش سبز در دوران افزایش و سرکوب و ارعاب گردیدند و هزینه ها و سختی ها معیار پشتوانه پیروزی دانشجویان گردید.

ره آورد های جنبش داشجویی، دانشجویان زندانی و محروم از تحصیل را چون نور راه مازوجیای امیدواری معرفی نمود این روزها دانشگاه به اتهام آنکه موتور محرکه جنبش سبز است، آماج شدیدترین حملات قرار گرفته و دشمنان دانشگاه عظم تعطیلی دانشگاه مستقل و توقف آگاهی بخشی معرفت افزایی و دانشگاه و حذف علوم انسانی را دارند دانشگاهی مرده می خواهند و می خواهند یادی از 18 تیر و 16 آذر نباشد اما دانشگاه همچنان کابوس حاکمان خیره سر است در دام توطئه و فریب به نام اسلامی کردن نمی افتد تا دشمن ترین ها برای دانشگاه نیز از جرقه انداختن در انبار باروت اعتراض و ایستادگی و شجاعت دانشگاه هراس داشته باشد حال زنده ماندن 18 تیر را شاهدی بر ادعایمان می دانیم و می دانیم 18 تیر زنده می ماند تا نوید پویایی و پیروزی جنبشی باشد که آغاز کرده ایم.

جنبش دانشجویی امروز راه گذشته خود را با سرعت بیشتری می پیماید آگاهی بخش است و با شجاعت به پیش می رود جامع اش را میشناسد و روشنفکرانش را درمیابد پشتوانه روزنامه نگاران و فعالان سیاسی و مدنی است نفی خشونت روا داری را به فرهنگ جامعه پیوند زده است این روزها رهبران سبز را تنها نمیگذارد و فرصت ها را غنیمت میشمارد حال دانشجویان می خواهند منظم تر و هم دل تر فعالیت کنند. به تجربه های گذشته احترام بگذارند و ثبت کنند و در اختیار دیگران قرار دهند تا مزایایی فعالیت تشکیلاتی خود را نشان دهد امروز جنبش دانشجویی از تاکتیک زدگی می پرهیزد تا مبادا سر انجام بازی در فضای سخت و پر هزینه ی امروز به پشت و پا زدن به ارزش ها و پشت کردن به دوستان بیانجامد مراقب است تا کتیک ها خالی از تصمیم اصلی و استراتژی نباشد تا پیروزی نزدیک تر گردد و این بخش کوچکی از آنچه هست که می بینیم.

امروز خوشحالیم که در زندان نیز صدای رسا و بیدار دانشگاه را میشنویم که دوستانمان امید را زنده نگه داشته اند ندای آزادی خواهی ترانه استبداد ستیزی را فریاد می کنند خرسندیم که افتخار داریم در کنار یاران دبستانی مان باشیم و دانشجویان را همراه خود بیابیم و امیدواریم و میدانیم که بزودی دیدارمان در شادی و سرور سبزمان در جشن آزادی و دموکراسی حاصل می آید.

یازدهمین 18 تیرمان را سپری میکنیم و اینک تنها نیستیم در بی شماریمان رنگ سبز را برگزیده ایم و راه سبزمان سراسر امید است و با امید گام بر میداریم آگاهی پشتوانه ای است که شجاعت و صداقت را همراه با ما همراه کرده است و روح انسانی نفی خشونت را به ارمغان آورده و تثبیت ارزش ها نوید آینده ای سراسر آرامش و روحی پیشرفت داده است. می توانیم از 18 تیر شروع کنیم ، شروع میکنیم و نگاهی به گذشته می اندازیم و عظممان را جذب میکنیم تا تغییری بزرگ را بسرعت رقم بزنیم ما نیز به وظیفه مان عمل خواهیم کرد می دانیم دانشجوئیم و می خواهیم شرف و عزتمان را حفظ کنیم از هر روی می توانیم شروع کنیم هر جایی می توانیم شروع کنیم.

قصه نو شدن است و قصه تغییر است اینبار از خاطرات تلخمان شروع می کنیم از سختی ها عبور میکنیم می دانیم که سختی ها و تلخی های یکسال گذشته امید بیشتری را آفریده است می خواهیم عیدی بسازیم می خواهیم جشنی به پا کنیم می دانیم پیروز خواهیم شد.
