1 February 2010: 34 days have now elapsed since anyone saw or heard from Alireza Firoozi or Sourena Hashemi
Whilst 21days have passed without any news regarding Alireza Firoozi or Sourena Hashemi, there are disturbing rumors circulating about the wellbeing of these 2 student activists. According to official sources, who obtained GPS tracking records of Alireza Firoozi's Moblie phone device, it has been established that he is in Tehran, nonetheless there remains uncertainty on where the two students are being detained.
Relevant military and security authorities continue to maintain ignorance about the whereabouts of these 2 student activists, despite extremely worrying stories about their condition having reached their families and friends. Alireza Firoozi's family have applied to all courts, public prosecutor offices, military and security organisations in Tehran but as yet no one has provided any official information about the missing students.
The security authorities’ lack of investigation or accountability is significant. Whilst they eavesdrop, track and are aware of the contents of students & political activist's communications on both fixed & mobile phone lines, when told of extremely worrying information that has reached the family, they show no willingness to follow up the leads and remain silent.
What is the reason that a judge and other officials should have to say that "even god can not reach them if they are detained in IRGC's prison 66"? Why should 2 citizens of this country be held in a place where no one can find them? Why are there prisons, where no one can obtain any information about them? Where are Alireza Firoozi and Sourena Hashemi being held?
The plight of Alireza Firoozi and Sourena Hashemi will be pursued, with great concern. The Firoozi Family are extremely distressed and their situation has become very critical by the contradictory news & the rumours reaching them.

با گذشت سه هفته از ناپدید شدن علیرضا فیروزی و سورنا هاشمی دانشجویان دانشگاه زنجان وضعیت این دانشجویان همچنان مبهم و نگران کننده است.
Three weeks after the disappearance of Zanjan University students: Alireza Firouzi and Surena Hashemi, their situation is still unclear and worrisome.
عدم پاسخگویی مسئولین قضایی کشور باعث نگرانی بسیار برای خانواده های این دانشجویان شده است.
Lack of accountability among judiciary authorities inside the country has become a matter of concern for families of these students.
سابقه شکنجه های صورت گرفته در بازداشتگاه ها و اعمال و رفتار مامورین وزارت اطلاعات بدون هیچ گونه نظارتی طی ماه های اخیر، و برخوردهای شدید صورت گرفته با دانشجویان، باعث تشدید نگرانی در مورد وضعیت علیرضا فیروزی و سورنا هاشمی شده است.
The stories of torture in prisons and lack of supervision over actions & manners of Ministry of Information officials during recent months, as well as the extreme behaviour exercised towards students have increased concern on the situation of Alireza Firouzi and Surena Hashemi.
مادر علیرضا فیروزی در مصاحبه با خبرنامه امیرکبیر نسبت به وضعیت فرزندش علیرضا و دوست وی سورنا، ابراز نگرانی کرده و گفت که بی‌خبری از فرزندش، بدترین اتفاقی است که با آن روبه‌رو شده است وی از همه گروه‌ها و نهادهای حقوق بشری و دانشجویی تقاضا کرده است که پیگیر وضعیت این دو دانشجو باشند.
In an interview with Amir-Akbar News Agency, Alireza Firouzi’s mother has expressed her deep concern for her son Alireza and his friend Surena’s situation. She stated that the lack of news on her son’s situation is the worst event she has ever had to face. She has requested from all groups, Human Rights and student organisations to follow the case of these two students.

How long have you been without news from Alireza and Surena?
مادر علیرضا فیروزی: الان 3 هفته هست که ما هیچ خبری از آنها نداریم.
Alireza’s Mother: It has been 3 weeks that we have not received any news of them.
• آخرین بار کی از آنها خبر داشتید؟
When was the last time you have received any news of them?
12 آبان ماه بود که من برای آنها بلیط تبریز گرفتم و آنها را به ترمینال بیهقی بردم .
The last time was on the 12th of Aban (3 Nov 2009) when I bought them tickets to Tabriz and took them to Beyhaghi Terminal.
• آیا سفر علیرضا و سورنا برای منظور خاصی بود؟
Did Alireza & Surena’s trip have any special purpose?
مدتی بود که این دو عملا خانه نشین شده بودند و برای عوض کردن آب و هوا به مسافرت رفته بودند.
They had been at home for some time and they only wished to travel for fresh air and a change of scenery.
• دانشگاه نمی رفتند؟
Didn’t they go to University?
علیرضا و سورنا سه ترم هست که از دانشگاه تعلیق شده اند و بارها و بارها پی گیری کرده اند ولی هیچ پاسخی به آنها نداده اند.
Alireza's and Surena's studies in University have been suspended for 3 semesters and all their inquiries have remained unanswered.
• علت تعلیق آنها چه بود؟
What was the reason for their suspension?
بعد از ماجرای دانشگاه زنجان که اینها به مسئله تعرض به همکلاسیشان اعتراض کردند، دیگر آنها را به دانشگاه راه ندادند.
After the events in Zanjan University, they protested against the acts of aggression inflicted on their fellow students. Subsequently, they have been banned from the University.
• علیرضا آخرین بار کی در بازداشت بود؟ در محاکم قضایی هم سابقه محکومیت دارد؟
When was the last time Alireza was arrested? Does he have any judicial history?
علیرضا تا به حال دو بار بازداشت شده، یک مورد اوائل سال جاری بود که علیرضا به اشتباه در روز جهانی کارگر در پارک لاله بازداشت شد، چرا که قصد شرکت در همایش نجوم را داشت. مورد دیگر هم به پرونده دانشگاه زنجان بر می گردد که علیرضا را به خاطر آن هم از تحصیل محروم کردند و سه سال یک جوان بیست ساله را به زندان محکوم کردند. برای این پرونده دو هفته در زندان زنجان بود که با وثیقه 100 میلیونی آزاد شد.
Alireza has been arrested twice. The first time, Alireza was arrested by mistake in Laleh Park during the World Labour Day though his intention had been to attend a conference on astronomy. The second time was connected to the Zanjan University protest. Alireza’s educational status was annulled & this 20 year old boy has been sentenced to 3 years imprisonment. For this, he spent two weeks in Zanjan prison and has only been bailed by posting 100 million (Toman) Bail Bond.
• در این مدت شما چه پی گیری هایی کرده اید؟
What did you do during this time in order to follow up?
من به تبریز و ارومیه مراجعه کردم و تمام مکان هایی که ممکن بود آنها را بیابم گشتم از اداره آگاهی گرفته تا اداره امنیت و بیمارستانها.
I have been to Tabriz & Orumieh to look for them in every possible location, from Security and Intelligence Offices to hospitals.
• پاسخی هم دریافت کردید؟
Did you receive any answer?
هیچ کس پاسخگو نیست و فقط می گویند در حال پی گیری هستیم.
No one responds. They just say that “they are following it up”!
• در بعضی خبرها آمده بود که ردیابی موبایل علیرضا انجام شده است. آیا این صحت دارد؟
Some reports state that Alireza’s mobile phone has been traced. Is that correct?
بله ادره آگاهی ارومیه موبایل علیرضا را رد یابی کرده چند روزی ظاهرا در ارومیه بوده بعد از مدتی به ما گفتند که در تهران ردیابی موبایل خاموش او را یافته اند.
Yes, Urumieh’s Security Office has traced Alireza’s mobile phone. It seems that he has been in Urumieh for a few days, then after a while, they told us that they have traced his “turned off” mobile phone in Tehran.
• بعضی ها اذعان میکنند که علیرضا با آنها چت کرده آیا صحت دارد؟
Some people state that Alireza have chatted with them. Is that true?
بله بیش از 7 یا 8 بار علیرضا با عموی خود (دکتر فیروزی) چت کرده و یکی دو بار هم با بعضی از فعالین سیاسی و صحبتهایی را رد و بدل کرده که نشان می دهد خود علیرضا نیست.
Yes, more than 7 or 8 times, Alireza is said to have chatted with his uncle (Dr. Firouzi) and once or twice he is said to have exchanged words with some political activists. This only confirms that the contact is not from Alireza himself!

• در تهران هم پی گیری کرده اید؟
Did you try to follow up his case in Tehran too?
بله هم به پلیس امنیت شکایت کرده ایم، هم دادگاه انقلاب رفته ایم و هم به زندان اوین مراجعه کرده ایم ولی همانطور که گفتم اسامی آنها در هیچ یک از این جاها نیست و هیچ مقامی هم در این خصوص پاسخی نمیدهد. البته از منبع محلی و غیر موثق مطلع شدیم که به زندان اوین منتقل شده اند ولی زندان این را تایید نمیکند.
Yes, we have even filed a complaint to the Intelligence police. We have also been to Revolutionary Court and Evin prison, but as I said before, their names are nowhere to be found and authorities would not give any answer! Though, via local and unofficial sources, we heard that they have been transferred to Evin, yet the prison does not confirm it!
• نظر خود شما چیست؟ فکر میکنید واقعا علیرضا و سورنا دستگیر شده اند؟
What do you think? Do you really think that Alireza and Surena have been arrested?
همه شواهد و مدارک به ما می‌گوید که پسرم و دوستش در بازداشت هستند و متاسفانه من مادر از آنها بی‌‌خبرم. من اکنون به جایی رسیده‌ام که فقط می خواهم خبر سلامتی فرزندم را بشنوم. نمی‌دانم این چه کاری است که با ما میکنند. چرا من مادر باید از فرزندم نزدیک به سه هفته بی‌خبر باشم؟
All evidences and documents tell us that my son and his friend have been arrested. Unfortunately, as a mother, I am without any news of them. I have reached a point that I only wish to hear the news of my child’s health. I do not know why they are doing this to us. Why, I, as a mother, should remain with out any news from my child for more than 3 weeks?
• چه برنامه ای برای پی گیری وضعیت آنها دارید؟
What are your plans for following up their case?
هر روز از صبح تا عصر بدنبال پسرم از این اداره به آن اداره می روم ولی انگار اراده‌ای وجود دارد که ما را از آنها بی‌خبر نگه دارد. الان هم دست به دامن نهادهای حقوق بشری و بین المللی شده ایم.
Every day, from morning to afternoon, I go from public office to public office in search of my son, but it looks like there is a will to keep us uninformed of their situation. Now, we are calling on Human Rights and international organisations!
• چه در خواستی از مسئولین و مجامع بین المللی دارید؟
What do you ask of authorities and International Community?
من انتظار دارم در وهله اول مسئولین قضایی و امنیتی در این زمینه پاسخگو باشند و از همه گروه‌ها و نهادهای حقوق بشری و دانشجویی هم می‌خواهیم که پیگیر وضعیت این دو نفر باشند. ما روزهای بسیار سختی را می‌گذرانیم، بی‌خبری از فرزندم، بدترین اتفاقی است که با آن روبه‌رو شده‌ایم.
First, I expect that the relevant judicial and Intelligence authorities to be accountable in this matter and I ask from all groups, Human Rights and student organisations, to follow up the case of these two people. We are enduring difficult days and being without any news from my child is the worst event that I had to face in my life.
• امید واریم علیرضا و سورنا هر چه زود تر آزاد شوند و شما از این نگرانی رهایی یابید.
We hope for the prompt release of Alireza and Surena and wish for you to be free of this burden.
