Translated from @manic77 original by @persianyouth

Declaration by the Students Islamic Association, Department of Physics of Tehran University, concerning the martyrdom of Doctor Alimohammadi:

"Doctor Masood Alimohammadi, a professor of nuclear physics was assassinated," this breaking news announced on Tuesday morning [January 12, 2010] brought about grief and shock in the academic community. We experienced the sorrow of losing such a professor who had dedicated his life to improving his society through scientific and intellectual means- a person who in addition to all of this was sincerely concerned by the socio-political status quo of his country. Simultaneously, we were shocked by the political motivation underlying the introduction of our dear professor as a nuclear scientist.

While expressing our condolences and sympathy with his honorable family, the wide academic community, especially the students and respected professors of the Department of Physics of Tehran University and the Islamic Association of the Physics Department, feel obliged to make a few points due to the paradoxical news broadcasted from the different media:

1) We condemn violence by any individual, group and organization in any shape and form, especially an act of terror which shows a lack of tolerance for a person’s thoughts and beliefs.

2) In contrast to the information released by certain news agencies, linking him to regime affiliated institutions (all the while abusing his religious and moral convictions), it should be mentioned that he had been among the first to condemn the brutal attacks on the dormitory of Tehran University on June 15th as well as the disasters and desecration of our sacred university on the 7th and 8th of December, and the authorities’ lack of response. Furthermore, he had clearly expressed his political stance before and after the presidential elections, and had criticized the government. Knowing the dangers he may face, he nonetheless dared to create a seminary for objective political discussions which included different political spectrums. The first and unfortunately, the last seminary was held on the 5th of January, on “The representation of the current situation of society.

3) According to a statement released by the Professors of the Department of Physics of Tehran University: "his main scientific activities were in the field of cosmology, and his involvement in other scientific domains are not confirmed." Moreover, he was the Director of the field of elementary particle physics within the Physics Department of Tehran University, thus it is surprising that only a few minutes after the explosion, local media insisted on introducing him as a nuclear scientist.

4) According to the beliefs of our martyred Professor, if effective investigation had taken place by the responsible organizations in recent horrific events, such as the attacks on the university student dormitory and on “Student’s Day,” and if they had not linked these events to unclear and uncertain domestic and foreign perpetrators then we would have not lost such a distinguished professor.

5) We know that our dear professor has a great place in God’s presence and that the perpetrators of this act of terror will be punished in the after-life by divine justice. However, it is our duty to urgently demand further investigation by all organs and institutions accountable for security and law enforcement, in order to identify the true perpetrators. The failure to identify, apprehend and harshly punish these perpetrators will lead to more terrible disasters in the future
